Help!
Can anyone identify these O-Gauge model Trains?
I need to identify these model trains for insurance purposes.
Any help would be appreciated. If you know of any information
that should be attached, please email me
or check my home page for further
contact information.
The following are my best guesses at how these items should be
identified. I will update with any information you provide.
Thanks in advance for any help or pointers to people who might know!
Note that clicking on the image or highlighted text will download a .JPG image
of about 75KBytes size.
Pullman "Observation".
It is possible that this is an American Flyer "405 R OBS." from a box lid which
was included with the collection.
- Manufacturer: unknown (American Flyer?).
- Dates of production: unknown.
- Current replacement value: unknown.
Pullman "Boston".
It is possible that this is an American Flyer "404 R PUL." from a box lid which
was included with the collection.
- Manufacturer: unknown (American Flyer?).
- Dates of production: unknown.
- Current replacement value: unknown.
Pullman "Seattle".
It is possible that this is an American Flyer "404 R PUL." from a box lid which
was included with the collection.
- Manufacturer: unknown (American Flyer?).
- Dates of production: unknown.
- Current replacement value: unknown.
American Flyer box and lid flap.
This appears to have been the box (and flap which came off but was saved for
some reason over the years!) for the Observation car above. Note the top edge
of the box is pushed up slightly. This is due to the thumbscrews from the tops
of the cars which did not fit without forcing. In fact, all the cars are about
5mm too wide for the boxes and about 10mm too tall.
- Manufacturer: American Flyer/A. C. GILBERT CO.
- Dates of production: unknown.
- Current replacement value: unknown.
554 Locomotive Box?.
This is what is left of the stamp on the end of a heavy-duty corregated cardboard
box which might have held the locomotive for this set. It appears to say
"# 544 R LOCOMOTIVE". I have no idea if the original
engine is still in existance, and am looking for any pointers to a photograph
or drawing of an engine that would have come in this box, or belonged with the
rest of the set. From the lettering, I will guess that this is an American Flyer
also.
- Manufacturer: unknown (American Flyer?).
- Dates of production: unknown.
- Current replacement value: unknown.
Royal Blue "556" Locomotive.
This is included here for comparison (I'll snap pictures of the rest of the
"Royal Blue" set later). I don't know what sequence Gilbert selected for their
engines, but if they were any way near sequential, this unit was produced after
the 554 unit (box only) above.
- Manufacturer: American Flyer.
- Dates of production: unknown.
- Current replacement value: unknown.
PS: Sorry for the redish tint in the pictures. The video camera automatic
white balance was fooled by the blue blanket I used as a backdrop. I guess
I'll have to find a grey backdrop for future work. I attempted to correct the
gamma on the "Royal Blue" so the blue paint in the image looks closer to the
actual model (at least on my monitors...).
